Water Commissioners' Emergency Meeting — Thursday, October 4, 2001

An emergency meeting of the Town of Hartwick Water Commissioners was held at 7:00 PM on Thursday, October 4, 2001. All council members were present with the exception of Kathleen Chase.

Mrs. Niedzialkowski stated that on Friday, September 29, the water pump at the Creamery Building ceased to function. Layne Christensen Company was called to investigate, and after pulling the pump they stated that the shaft was broken. An ad was placed in the paper to alert the public to conserve water. Grant Ward, our Water Superintendent, stated the firehouse pump was doing well and the reservoir was fine.

On October 2, Layne Christensen stated that the pump should be replaced, as it is 11 years old and the life expectancy of these pumps is 10–20 years. Mrs. Niedzialkowski and Mr. Ward discussed this and called Wayne Bunn to get his opinion. It was the general consensus that Layne was reputable and the Town should take their recommendation.

As there is up to a two-week delivery time for the new pump, the emergency meeting was called. Mr. Butler moved to authorize the Supervisor to order a new pump and get it installed. Also, the Supervisor would be authorized to pay for the repairs to the original motor, now at Thering's Repair Shop. Mrs. Balcom offered the second and the motion carried with all votes aye.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:15 PM on a motion by Mary Balcom and a second by David Butler. All votes aye.

Respectfully submitted,
Joanne M. Telfer
Town Clerk
